Portugal take on the Czech Republic within the first Uefa Euro 2012 quarter final on Thursday 21 June 2012.

The first quarter final of Euro 2012 is going to be between the Czech Republic and Portugal on Thursday 21 June 2012 in the National Stadium in Warsaw. Portugal have never won this tournament but the Czech Republic dads and moms when they were Czechoslovakia won it in 1976.

The winner of this match will play within the semi-final at the Donbass Arena on 27 June 2012 where they’ll meet either Spain or France.

Czech Republic’s Route to the Quarter Finals

The Czech Republic started the tournament badly, being thrashed 4-1 by Russia, but they rallied to conquer Greece 2-1 in their second match. That set up a crucial game against co-hosts Poland in Warsaw plus they managed to spoil the party with a 1-0 win, knocking Poland out. Petr Jirácek scored the winner midway through the other half. They won the group two points clear of Greece.

The Czech Republic qualified for Euro 2012 after finishing second in Group I and then winning the two-legged playoff against Montenegro 3-0 on aggregate. The team coach is Michal Bilek.

    Portugal’s Route to the Quarter Finals

    Portugal also lost their opening game, 1-0 to Germany but then won a five-goal thriller 3-2 against Denmark. This meant they’d everything to experience for within their final match against the Netherlands and it all looked to be failing once the Dutch took charge on 11 minutes. Captain Cristiano Ronaldo rescued the day with a brace, one out of each half. He’d were built with a poor tournament so far by his standards but now looks to be back on form. Portugal came second within the group, three points behind Germany.

    Portugal qualified for Euro 2012 by finishing runners up in Group H and had to get certified in a play-off against Bosnia & Herzegovina. They coach is Paulo Bento.

    National Stadium Warsaw

    The National Stadium in Warsaw holds 50,000 people and was opened in January this year. It’s already been used as a venue for Group A matches and will also be used for one of the semi-finals. It had been built on the website of the Tenth Anniversary Stadium that stood from 1955 to 1989. It is the home ground for that Polish national team.
